What this site does with your data
Very little, and this page says exactly what. It is short because the site is simple: there is nothing to fill in, nothing is stored on your device, and nothing is sent to anybody else.
The short version
This website sets no cookies. It runs no analytics script, no advertising tag and no tracking of any kind. It loads no fonts, scripts, images or embeds from any other company. Every file comes from mikedempsey.co.uk. There is no form to complete and no mailing list to join. You will not see a cookie banner here, because there is nothing to consent to.
Two things still involve your data, and they are set out below: the records the hosting company keeps automatically, and any email you choose to send.
Who is responsible
Mike Dempsey is the data controller for this website. You can reach him at mike@mikedempsey.co.uk about anything on this page.
Records kept by the hosting company
The site is hosted by Hostinger, and served through their content delivery network. Like every web host, their systems record each request automatically. That record includes your IP address, the type of browser and device you used, which page you asked for, the date and time, and whether the request succeeded.
An IP address counts as personal data, so it is named here rather than glossed over. It is used for three things: keeping the site running, protecting it from attack and abuse, and producing a simple count of visits by country and device. That count is generated from these same records. It does not involve a cookie, a script, or anything stored on your device, and it cannot identify you personally.
The lawful basis is legitimate interests, under Article 6(1)(f) of the UK GDPR. The interest is knowing that the site works and that somebody is reading it. Nothing here is used to profile you, target you or make any decision about you.
These records are held by Hostinger under their own retention schedule and are deleted on that schedule. Mike does not copy them, keep his own version, or combine them with anything else. Hostinger's own privacy policy is at hostinger.com/legal/privacy-policy.
If you email Mike, he will have your email address, your name if you give it, and whatever you wrote. He uses it to reply to you and to take forward any work or role you are discussing. The lawful basis is legitimate interests, or the steps leading to a contract if that is what the conversation is about.
He keeps professional correspondence for as long as it is useful and then deletes it. Your message is not added to a marketing list, because there is no marketing list. It is not shared with anyone else unless you have asked him to make an introduction.
Links to other sites
The only outbound link is to Mike's LinkedIn profile. It is an ordinary link, not an embedded panel, so nothing is sent to LinkedIn while you are on this site. If you click it you leave for LinkedIn, and LinkedIn's own privacy policy applies from that point.
Your rights
Under the UK GDPR you can ask to see the personal data held about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, ask for the processing to be restricted, and object to processing based on legitimate interests. Email mike@mikedempsey.co.uk and he will respond within one month.
In practice the only data he holds is your email correspondence, if you have sent any. The hosting records described above are not linked to a name and cannot be searched for an individual, so a request about those is usually answered by explaining that.
If you are not satisfied with his response, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk or on 0303 123 1113. You can go to the ICO without asking him first.
What this site does not do
No cookies. No analytics scripts. No advertising or retargeting pixels. No social media embeds or share buttons. No third-party fonts. No forms. No account to create. No newsletter. No data sold, rented or shared for anyone else's purposes. No automated decision-making and no profiling. No transfer of your data outside the United Kingdom beyond the hosting arrangements described above.
Changes
If the site changes in a way that affects any of this, this page changes with it and the date below changes too.
